Dolmen Swamp

This is the second chapter on Wizards of Mickey series, also the second chapter of the first arc Great Crown. It published around October 2006, on Topolino magazine edition 2655. The same format as disclaimer for all future chapters, this is translated from Indonesian summary and can be not exactly match word by word. It should be at least make sensible story.

TEAMS INTRODUCTION

The chapter starts with participant teams for the tournament gathered for a technical meeting.  The tournament committee explains rules and other things while most participants didn’t pay attention :p Mickey and others are dozing off. Team Nyam2 cook are just staring. A blue dragon complained about why they need to listen this while the red one replies about scaleless race’s etiquette. Team Black Phantom (Pete and Beagle Boys) discussing about how they can join the tournament because a team can only consist 3 people while they are 4. With Harry Potter’s blessing (lol), one of beagle boys shown the other members the invisible cloak to cloak one of them.. The tournament will have various type of matches and eventually will merged with other teams from other towns/countries. The first match will be a race to obtain magic scroll with Maze or trial to clear.

After the meeting’s done, WoM members are chatting while walking to the inn, explaining their motives further. Mickey explains what happened in the last chapter, Goofy wants to collect herbs and materials to help his Alchemist and crafting ability, and Donald is simply joined because he wants to avoid debts and probably paying them with tournament rewards.

Mickey wondering about his master Nereus and probably will mad at him right now. However, Nereus actually got trapped by his rival, Phantom Blot during his quest. He tries to contact Mickey by using magic to a mouse (real mouse yeah not Mickey Mouse) to control it and use a pocket watch as message tools. The pocket watch will be delivered to Mickey later.

PRELIMINARY MATCH – DOLMEN SWAMP

Before the match started, Team Phantom Blot rigging the tournament by shuffling the team’s schedule that previously set by secret by committee. They win the match easily with stupid team as opponent (idiotic comical figures, you can imagine). Mickey was seeing Pete using Fire and Rain Diamagic which makes him pissed. Amateur 3 wizard kids team versus the three dragons spotted before, now called Team Magma Fire. They ran away immediately. The dragons simply clear the path with Fire (with Zaius doing it with style) and obtain the scroll. Team Nyam2 Cook won offscreen (only told on monologue).

Now it’s Wizard of Mickey’s turn. Their match is against Alterus Wizards that seems underestimate and mocking them. They also mocking Fafnir as companion (he doesn’t count as fourth member and act as team’s companion which allowed for the tournament)

They faced unbreakable bushes like a wall. The opponent used a penetration diamagic allowing them to go through bushes. Donald tries Fire Spell but nothing came out from his rod. Mickey said they are on disadvantage since they have no Diamagic. Goofy then has an idea “How about the opposite then? Don’t use a magic instead. It’s not forbidden.” Goofy then pick up sickles from his magic bag. “You surely bring all crafting tools huh?” Donald saying with sarcastic tone but also smiling while he swinging to cut bushes.

Their opponents are leaving them behind. Mickey wonders how they can search the scroll in the middle of all swamps, trees and bushes. Donald said while his Magic sucks, he can cast spell to extend Fafnir’s ability to smell and allow him to even smell smallest thing in the world. Donald used it with a scroll replica (how Donald can duplicate things?) and Fafnir flying fast so sudden. So the trio are chasing him. In the middle of that, Mickey accidentally hit a frog but he found a pocket watch which he know it belongs to his master. The pocket watch was transferred between the mouse, then to fish for underwater deliver, and finally to a frog as flashback. Donald scolded at Mickey to catch up with Fafnir.

The trio finally arrived at the scroll but the opponent already ahead and used a vine to cross the cliff. But Mickey sensed something wrong because Fafnir doesn’t fly there. He asked Donald about it and confirms that one is the fake scroll. Mickey then found the real scroll based on Fafnir’s more smelling and won the match. Goofy said the vine is perfect for his magic tools so he thank them to own the vine as the insult counter from the match’s beginning.

As the tournament rules, Mickey can challenge Pete for a magic battle to retrieve Diamagic (2 teams can declare battle to get opponent’s diamagic) but the committee refused as he doesn’t own a Diamagic. But Pete then challenges him back which is allowed. Mickey won by using vines that Goofy modified before and retrieved back his village Diamagic (Rain). After the match is over, Mickey said he wants to go back to the village and report to Nereus about the incident. Goofy asked if he wants to progressing the tournament but right now he doesn’t want to as he doesn’t want to enrage his master more. Goofy wants to tag along as he got the vines for his research and Donald also going with nothing to do. Donald wonders about his debts while not thinking about them and just forgetting them. Meanwhile, the innkeeper from chapter 1 was pleased to saw his tools polished by golds and stating Donald’s debts are paid XD

And so, the team was travelling back to Mice Village. But Nereus message will be delivered later and there is more than just Rain Diamagic to make the team actually needs to progressing the tournament more and prevent further dangers by Phantom Blot.

• Team Magma Fire was introduced as antagonistic figure for now, although they will become allies in later parts.
• Basic Magics can be used as Donald and Goofy performed on this chapter but stronger and elemental magics requires Diamagic.
