Chapter 1

The Great Tournament

 

This is the first chapter on Wizards of Mickey series, which also the prologue of the first arc Great Crown. It published around October 2006, on Topolino magazine edition 2654. The same format as disclaimer for all future chapters, this is translated from Indonesian summary and can be not exactly match word by word. It should be at least make sensible story.

PROLOGUE  - MICE Village

The story starts on a drought village called Mice village (this is literally pun, not exactly translated to “Mass Mouse”). Onions and Turnips are moving around and scared the villagers there then attacked a mouse Wizard called Mickey Mouse. The crops then stopped by an older Wizard called Nereus. “Mickey, why you use magics again?” The old man asked. “I just want to help the villagers, the crops can help farmers doing their work” Mickey replied. “Same as why you can’t use this Rain Diamagic yet, not now.” Nereus scolded. Mickey still asked himself in his mind why he can’t use magics to help people. He knew he was amateur in Wizard’s level but he can’t think to just sit and practice or writing for his lessons. Days passed and Nereus then leaving the village for a quest (the term for Wizards taking tasks/works to solve problems and getting paid). He personally asks Mickey to keep Village and Rain Diamagic safe without any use/harm. Nereus promised to end the drought if Mickey can do his duty.

Few hours passed and a stranger comes into the village and talk to Mickey, he introduces himself as Pete. Pete asked why Mickey can’t use the rain Diamagic if the village suffers drought which Mickey replies that he’s forbidden to use so. This is when the problem starts. Pluto spilled some of water barrels that used as water source in the middle of drought and get scolded by the farmers. Pete changed his polite attitude to his usual Disney series personality and mocks Mickey for being coward. He reveals himself as Wizard who run away and abandoning his master and provokes Mickey to do the same since Mickey still helping people anyway. Even the villagers agree with Pete at this moment making the situation worse. Being provoked, Mickey then use the Diamagic, causing rain and people got happy with the rain. However, the rain become storm and Mickey can’t control it. Pete then request Mickey to hand the diamagic over and let him handle it.

It was success in the end, but the village now in flood and over-water instead drought. After the chaos, Pete then tried to leave while prevented by Mickey. “I saved the village, the diamagic is now mine” Pete said. “I’m thanking you for that, but that’s not the appointment here. My duty is keep the village AND Diamagic safe. I can’t choose one” Mickey replied. They then having physical fight but Pete won and he said he goes to Grandhaven. Mickey got KO-ed and later waked up by Pluto. He has a nightmare about being scolded by Nereus and other bad things on the village. Being responsible, Mickey writes a message for Pluto for Nereus, asked Pluto to stay on the village and he leaves the village to search Pete (but Nereus doesn’t come back to village and Pluto also leaving the village, due to plot in next chapters  :p)

Grandhaven City – Dolmen Kingdom

Mickey finally arrived at Grandhaven and admires how big the city is as he never visits it. He encounters a lot of peddlers/merchants on the way, including trying a soup for free from a pig character, only to find that the soup really taste bad. The pig scolded by other two pigs which are his friends. They introduce themself to Mickey as Team Nyam-Nyam Cook and have a bit chatting. Mickey then realizes that this world has many Diamagics other than Rain that owned on the village. He also learned about the upcoming magic tournament with tons of Diamagic prize and forming Great Crown with all special Diamagics gathered.

Next, Mickey goes to the inn for resting but he encounters Pete again with his company, Beagle Boys. Pete provokes Mickey to participate the magic tournament and retrieving back the Rain Diamagic. Mickey angrily accepts the challenge but he then get confused with himself being alone, as wizards can only register with team consisting three people.

 

Mickey tries to invite people but ended without any result. He feels exhausted then sitting outside the registration hall. He just sitting quietly, questioning his wizard level being low and suddenly being called out by someone. He apparently was not sitting alone. “Wanna taste some?”

Mickey : No, I have enough. Not again...

???: Again? I just meet you right now...

Mickey : Wait that’s not the same pig’s voice... Eh who are you? And it’s not taste so bad like before... You’re not a chef?

??? : Name’s Goofy. I’m a Wizard, though now being Alchemist.

Mickey: Alchemist?

Goofy: Well yeah. I tried to stay away from Wizard, kinda hate it. Only few members of my clan are Wizards. I’m being unlucky to destined as one..

Mickey: Why? I heard many people who are not inherited magics even dreaming or training to become Wizards.

Goofy: Then I’m the opposite one. I’d like to prove that magic is not everything or exclusive for your life.

Mickey: I see... **Suddenly someone else run into them**

??? : You two, can you help me?;    M&G: Yes?

??? : Help me hide from someone who chasing me, Fafnir come here... 

And so the new guy hides inside Goofy’s bag.. Another animal figure that seems angry appears and moving forward. The three then having another chat and introduce each other.

???: My name is Donald Duck. And this is my pet Dragon, Fafnir.. Nice to meet ya...

Goofy: What’s the matter? Are you stealing something?

Donald: Not quite. It’s just I have not enough money to pay my inn’s fee. As payment, I’ve tried to use magic to polish his kitchen equipments. But well, I’m failed so here I am now.. 

Goofy: Well, that’s perfect example of why Magic is not everything..

Donald: Fafnir makes the situation worse too. He’s mad since I get scolded and attack him with his fire breath, burning some rooms as well. But I can’t entirely blame him. It’s Fafnir’s instinct to defend his master. Whatever, all I need is money now.

Goofy: You can get money and diamagic prize on the tournament aren’t you? First round is in Dolmen Swamp and I want to get plants for my Alchemy material.

 

Mickey: You guys are not registered yet?

D&G: No, we’re traveling without any company...

Mickey: Then why don’t we team up? It’s three people right?

D&G: !!! ; Mickey: Goofy can get plants, Donald can get money, and I can get Diamagics to repay my mistakes. Sounds good?

MDG: Let’s go!!!

And so they register the tournament. They need a team name as the last step of registration. As Mickey becomes the founder and leader, Donald and Goofy entrust him for the name. Mickey then declares “Wizard of Mickey” as their team name. The trio probably thinking that the team maybe only lasts for the tournament duration, but the new fate will bring them to the long tales that they not expected...

Trivia and Chapter Notes

• While Venerable Ormen appears in the chapter cover, he doesn’t make appearance until chapter 7. His name also not announced yet.
• Diamagic is a crystal that can produce spells and elements with various size, type, and colors.
•  Goofy’s bag has extension spell that allow him to store many items, contrary to his doubts about magic.
• Team Nyam-Nyam cook design is based on the Three Little Pigs. This is one of original character in the series that took parody from other Disney characters.
• Nereus also based on Yensid on Disney series. In Greek Myhtology, Nereus is water God which in this chapter owned a Water based Diamagic.
• Fafnir was miscolorred in red instead green in the cover.
