[Lost in Translation] Corner Story: Wizards of Mickey, Introduction (will be updated as I got more time to write)

So, as the introduction I'll doing a bit copy paste from known information from Disney wikia..

Wizards of Mickey is an Italian fantasy comic saga that began on October 2006. It was created by The Walt Disney Company Italy. There are currently six parts to it: Wizards of Mickey, Wizards of Mickey II - The Dark Ages, Wizards of Mickey III - The Ancient Evil, Wizards of Mickey IV - The New World, Wizards of Mickey V - The Lost City and Wizards of Mickey VI - Legacy. The first part of the saga was later released in Europe. (I edit this after reading Italian source which more updated than English wiki)

 

In September 2009, Boom! Studios began releasing the storyline in the United States in the monthly Mickey Mouse and Friends. In October 2009, Boom! announced that the story would be moving from Mickey Mouse and Friends to its own regular title, Wizards of Mickey. The first issue went on sale in February, 2010. However, the Wizards of Mickey title was cancelled after eight issues, with only the first installment of the saga seeing print in the US. To date, the later parts have yet to be printed in the US. 

From here on, I'll add the current translation in Indonesia where I live. This series actually have been translated to Indonesian language and 4 of 6 parts published. However, it's only published by small company and not advertised so well so the comic itself didn't sell widely. I only got the copies of arc 1 and 2 that scanlated and really poorly translated but at least I got the core of the story.

So despite its unpopularity what's the interest point of this series? To be honest the story itself is really standard and predictable as well but basically it offers the fantasy settings that I favorited. The closest thing I can tell you is a mixed world with Avatar (you know the 4 elements bending) and then a magic/wizard world, at first I thought it was like Harry Potter but well it's closer to lord of the rings or chronicles of Narnia. So imagine that with Disney character instead.

After I read the story, despite being Disney there are some things that make it different atmosphere inside the series. Even to Kingdom Hearts series, you will see a difference character development between Mickey KH and Mickey WoM. You will still see the greedy, emotional, and humorous stuff from Donald but both version have differences. 

Also one main difference between KH is the world settings. In this world, everyone were fighting to reach their target and survival. So unlike KH where Sora, Donald, and Goofy are welcomed into every world they visit, WoM basically is not work smoothly like that. Even when Mickey meet Minnie first time they are enemies !! Not only that, there are also conditions where allies can become enemies in which most of time Mickey, Donald, and Goofy must fight their own allies.

So let's jump to the story shall we? As introduction I just spoil few prologue. It starts on Mickey's home village called Mice Village (ummm okay....), Mickey is an apprentice Magician that still a bit amateur of using Magic as well. In this world, Magic is controlled by Diamagic, a crystal that enhances the element power (Fire, Air, Earth, Water). Yep a bit similar to Avatar but unlike Avatar everyone can control all elements as long they have the Diamagics.

One day, Nereus, Mickey's master (I'll explain this character later) is leaving the village and asks Mickey to keep the village safe. But then Pete (yes you know who he is) screw the village. He asking Mickey to get a Water from Diamagic and then Mickey using it and causing Rain and Storm that screwing the village. Pete then steal the Diamagic and Mickey chase him.

The condition is getting more serious. It's revealed that Diamagics can combined into a Great Crown and have a secret real power inside it so a tournament is held to collect Diamagics scattered in the world. Pete stealing the Diamagic is just a part of bigger scene later that planned by an evil side. Not only that, Nereus has been reported missing from his journey which also part of this scene. 

Mickey tries to join the tournament but there is a primary rule that he can only register as a team consist of three people. He tries to recruit people with no success and one person volunteers it, which is Goofy !! Suddenly Donald with his baby Dragon pet (I'll reveal this dragon later) also clashed into them and Mickey ask him which he agrees. The reason of both Donald & Goofy joining Mickey is not clear for now but it eventually revealed. Together they make a team and they need a name, Mickey call the team "Wizard of Mickey" and they going into the tournament together. Also if you play KH1 this will remind you of the beginning of this journey as well.

Just a reminder, there are just too many races in this world. MDG alone are different races but I can split it to 2 general races, first is Wizards that basically "human" race for this world (act as normal human) and second is Mystical Beasts/Animals, which includes Dragons, Bats, etc (Zaius is in here, Pluto, Mickey's dog as well, and Fafnir, the green Dragon in pic above)
